It is well-known that yoga isn´t just yoga. There are tons of different yoga styles out there. Every person has different tastes and personalities and needs to adapt the yoga practice accordingly.
A very active and hectic person for example will love the rather active Ashtanga or Vinyasa yoga style, while it is recommendable to practice the very slow yin yoga instead, to lower stress and anxiety.
Depending on your goal you need to choose a yoga style. The best yoga style to enhance flexibility is yin yoga, which also heals deeply, increases patience, peace and acceptance. Yin yoga is probably the most spiritual type of all yoga styles, just because it is so effective on the emotional level. Yin yoga allows the yogi to stay in a relaxing pose for a very long time, at least three minutes, while the alignment should be completely ignored. This is why yin yoga is a very different style from the other yoga types, where alignment is very important, and has a lot in common with restorative yoga.
In yin yoga gravity should push you deeper into the pose over time, while you only focus on yourself and your emotions. Yin yoga is very healing and can help you to let go of blockages and helps you to heal deep rooted wounds, in a rather gentle way. It can be very tough to stay in a pose for many minutes and you should find the balance between comfort and pain. It shouldn’t be too comfortable, but not too deep of a stretch either. Staying in one pose for long can create space for emotions to arise. While you stay equanimous and simply observe those arising emotions, negative energy will leave your system and you can heal.
If you only want to work on your flexibility, the physical level, you can use the yin yoga poses. Put on your favourite movie or series on Netflix and stretch in the meantime, while watching. Stay in comfortable poses for at least 10 to 15 minutes, while you focus on your favourite movie and you will gain flexibility in no time.
Of course this has nothing to do with yoga anymore, as you are merely focusing on gaining more flexibility and yoga goes way beyond the physical level. Anyway, it can help you physically if you are a tense person, with little time on hand.

The Netflix flexibility program should not replace the traditional yoga, but you can use it as an addon, to simply gain more flexibility fast. Now, you really have no excuse anymore to work on yourself physically and maybe it brings you closer to yoga in the end.
